According to his will, written on October 29, 1675 while "bound to sea," Jeffrey lived in Abbottsbury, Dorsetshire, but had business and lived at times in the greater Salem, MA, area. He was a fisherman, and bequeathed "all my fishing craft that is in my chest at Clem Englishes house in Salem." He apparently was in someone's employ, since he gave his income, including wages, due for the voyage he was on, to his grandson Jeffrey. He also mentions his granddaughter Mary. Richard's other children were not yet born. Jeffrey owned 15 acres of land on the Bass River in the part of Salem that later became Beverly. Although Mary was the name of his wife in Salem, she wasn't necessarily the mother of his children. There is a marriage record for a man of this name and Mary Feaver in Abbotsbury, England.
