Barnabas' signature from his father's probate papers, aged about 28 years. The missing "d" in Howland is odd. George Howland signed just below and included the "d," as did his father's signature

vital records sources: Barnabas' birth was recorded in the records of the Dartmouth Friends Monthly Meeting (found in the published Dartmouth vital records): "son of Benjamin and Judith, 23rd of 7th month 1699." The seventh month was, in the "old style" of dating, September. The date is also in a family Bible at the Old Dartmouth Historical Society, the information from which is also in the vital records. The Dartmouth vital/Monthly Meeting records also include both his marriages (the first says "son of Benjamin of Dartmouth...daughter of John of Dartmouth). His death appears as a town vital record.
