John lived in "The Farms" section of Berkley, Massachusetts, now a part of the town of Taunton. John was a deputy to the Plymouth Colony General Court for five terms. He was deputy to the General Court of Massachusetts in 1696-7, after Plymouth Colony was absorbed by Massachusetts Bay. Also, presumably in Berkley or Taunton, he was a selectman (1681), constable (1690-1), grandjuror, "attorney," and a co-founder of the Chartley (later Leonard) Iron Works in Norton, Massachusetts, in 1695.
